Call for an Appointment with Dr. Malek
Dr. MacKenzie Malek grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. Her interest in the sciences did not surprise her parents, an electrical engineer and a neonatal nurse. But they realized early on that her special gift was her determination to “give it her best.” Dr. Malek was Alabama’s Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year in 2007, and she competed in NCAA Division I volleyball while majoring in molecular biology at UAB. She continued to distinguish herself through medical school and her Ob-Gyn residency training, receiving numerous honors for scholarship, leadership, and dedication to teaching. Her patients appreciate that she brings that same level of commitment to their care.
Dr. Malek enjoys the balance of primary care and surgery that her Ob-Gyn practice provides. She describes her love of obstetrics as “the joy of partnering with a woman, as caregiver and sounding board, from her first thoughts of conceiving a child, to the moment of birth, and through the gritty post-partum season.” She views caring for adolescent girls as a special niche in her practice. She can help them develop a trusting relationship with a women’s doctor and a lifelong commitment to regular preventive care. Dr. Malek is thrilled to be returning to her roots in Alabama, but admits she will miss her patients at Ft. Cavazos (formerly Ft. Hood). She says it has been a privilege to care for these families whose service protects our freedom.
Dr. Malek and her husband Justin, a general and endocrine surgeon, are the parents of a preschool son and daughter. When time allows, she still enjoys volleyball, ultimate frisbee, training for an occasional half marathon, and cooking for family and friends.
