Our Doctors in the News

In case you missed it, Dr. Hall-Minnie, Dr. Malek, and Dr. Whitehead were featured on WBRC FOX 6 News “Ask The Doc” segment to talk about fibroids for Fibroid Awareness Month. We appreciate Sheldon Haygood and the team at FOX 6 News for welcoming our doctors to spread awareness about this women’s health issue! Check out their segment below:

Fibroids can cause heavy periods, anemia, abdominal or pelvic pain, bloating, problems with urinating or bowel movements, and several other symptoms. Many women are affected by these benign smooth muscle tumors. They can range in size from as small as a pea to as large as a melon. Some people have one fibroid, but others have several fibroids. The doctors at Sparks & Favor offer multiple options for the management of fibroids including medications and surgical options. Our office has an ultrasound suite conveniently located next to our main office where we perform imaging to assess your uterus for fibroids.

Some reasons to see your OB/GYN include:

  • Bleeding between your periods
  • Periods that last longer than 7 days
  • Passing blood clots larger than a quarter in size
  • Needing to wear more than one pad or tampon at once to control the flow of blood
  • Changing your pads or tampons once an hour or more frequently
  • Soiling your clothes or bed sheets from flooding around your pads
  • If you have to restrict your daily activities because of your periods
  • Painful periods or pelvic pain
  • Pelvic pressure, bloating, feeling like your abdomen is growing but not necessarily from weight gain
  • Urinary urgency or incontinence
  • Anemia symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, weakness, craving ice

If you have symptoms of fibroids or would like to further discuss management of this common condition with one of our physicians, call our office to schedule a gynecology appointment at 205-397-1286.
